MFA in Physical Theatre
The Master of Fine Arts program at Accademia dell'Arte, offered in partnership with Mississippi University for Women, is the culmination of research and experimentation with diverse yet interrelated European performance trends broadly defined as Physical Theatre. It is based in the Accademia dell’Arte’s campus in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy. The school has recently developed a 200 square metre facility in the historic centre of Arezzo, complementing the Villa Godiola, our main campus that is a short distance from the city walls.
The program brings together some of the most innovative approaches currently available in Europe. Rooted in the spirit of the Commedia dell'arte, the ethos of the actor-creator, the curriculum provides a high level of technical training for actors, while fully preparing them to devise and create their own performance style. It is contextualized by the ongoing study of history, aesthetics and social theory.
The ultimate goal of the program is to launch students into the world as confident, creative and autonomous artists with a strongly developed aesthetic sensibility that unites the wonder of performance with a genuine search for human meaning.
For candidates not seeking the final Master's degree, the Accademia dell'Arte also provides an in-house certificate in graduate studies after the completion of the first year.
Accreditation for Graduate Program
The Master of Fine Arts in Physical Theatre is offered by Mississippi University for Women in cooperation with Accademia dell'Arte. Students must be admitted to the graduate program at MUW prior to enrolling for courses leading to the MFA degree.
Mississippi University for Women is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) and is authorized to award Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees.
